I prefer not to marinate it for more than 30 minutes, to let the flavor of the chicken shine through. .. reply Wes 28 December, 2014 - 07:25 Permalink Re: Chicken Karaage: Japanese Fried Chicken I keep having the same problem with chicken. reply anon. Drain well - a wire rack is best for this, but paper towels work too. The oil we used was previously used for tempura and prolly added a lil' flavor.

I am unsure how much oil to use and also I am wondering why your bento book says cornstarch (which I bought) and this recipe says potato starch first and cornstarch as an alternative. I usually have the ingredients on hand and it's so quick and easy to prepare. Intercultural karaage! reply carolynn 22 August, 2013 - 20:17 Permalink Re: Chicken Karaage: Japanese Fried Chicken--bento I have your bento book and I was going to make this for dinner tonight. The look of the morsels reminded me of the products from this well known wicked chicken vendor from abroad. i was also confused about the marinade, i always used about a cup of soy, and put garlic as well, and sumtimes marinated for couple hours! (by accident though, i knew that i had to leave for 1/2 or so, but i thought over night wudn't kill it, which it did) thanks for clearing it all up! reply Josiah 23 August, 2007 - 17:22 Permalink Love them Hey! I've been getting tons of recipies off your site, and they're all really good. I found no matter how many times I fried my seasoned/marinated chicken in potato or corn starch it never looked like that. reply Ness 4 September, 2013 - 12:05 Permalink Re: Chicken Karaage: Japanese Fried Chicken Hey, I'm having a party on Friday and am going to be making about 7 little snack dishes, this being one of them. reply Kim 20 July, 2010 - 14:58 Permalink Re: Karaage: Japanese-Chinese style fried chicken Thanks for the recipe, I get this all the time from our local sushi cafe.

Note that you can marinate this for as little as 10 minutes and it will taste really good. Perhaps I am just too used to American fried chicken, which generally has more spices and probably too much salt. Thanks so much for posting this! reply Leigh 22 November, 2012 - 11:16 Permalink Re: Chicken Karaage: Japanese Fried Chicken I live in Berlin these days and (IMHO) it's generally tough to find good asian food, let alone Japanese food that's not sushi/sashimi. Thanks a lot! reply Melanie 30 May, 2008 - 03:53 Permalink Mmm, this sounds delicious! Mmm, this sounds delicious! Is there a substitute you would recommend for the sake or the sherry? I don't do alcohol, even for cooking. Anyway, it's available on the King Arthur Flour website and I'm sure most baking goods sites, as well as some markets and shops that cater to bakers. Highly recommended for everyone to try. Great recipe! Thanks for the refresh. The surface will not turn crispy enough, and you'll wonder what all the fuss is about. Thanks a lot reply koko 4 January, 2012 - 10:24 Permalink Re: Chicken Karaage: Japanese Fried Chicken I made this tonight after reading this article over and over. this is definately going to be a regular dish in my household. I've tried almost every Karaage recipe on google search engine and result is same more or less any suggestions? I've seen recipes that say just place chicken piece in potato starch and coat each side (as opposed to adding starch to marinade bowl) And no matter what i try, huge white spots (which I've never had a sushi bar) Please help, i'm tired of wasting chicken haha reply maki 3 January, 2015 - 03:18 Permalink Re: Chicken Karaage: Japanese Fried Chicken If the white spots are from the starch, you have probably put too much on.
